Today went differently than I had imagined.

I booked a group “course” with the Île de Loisirs de Vaires-Torcy, for a catamaran course.

But since there was low winds, the instructor Sammy decided that instead of going on a catamaran, all 5 of us should take a monohull out and have a few runs at launching a spinnaker.

Which I did not mind– I guess I would have preferred a catamaran but I am always glad to get out on the water so I was okay with it.

Since it was very light winds, a colleague of the instructor motored us out to a spot on thr lake where there was a bit of wind, then we were on our own.

Not much to speak about really, just putzing around trying to find the wind mostly. We finally did manage to get the spinnaker deployed twice before heading back in for the day. It was the instructor that prepared the spinnaker and deployed it, I was actually at the helm for both deployments, and I was also controlling the spinnaker sheet for the first deployment.

It was an asymmetrical spinnaker, which to my eyes looked a lot like the Code Zero sail that we flew during My First Atlantic Crossing, but I think was made of a thinner material and was also more balloon-like in shape when filled with wind. Not much more to say about the daysail, honestly. Hopefully the next outing we’ll have better winds!
